Chlorella is a type of live, single-celled green algae that can thrive in various environments. You might find Chlorella growing in aquariums that haven’t been well maintained, or in mixed algae cultures derived from pond water.
Chlorella has is being studied for its role in photosynthesis and as a great potential food source.
Cultivating Chlorella
To cultivate Chlorella into a concentrated, larger volume ready for harvesting, it is recommended that you allow 10 weeks for growth. For faster optimal algal growth, it is recommended that you use a Chlorella culture medium like Maxpro Algae Thrive™. Alternatively, aged tap water (water left to stand in a container for at least 48 hours before use) can be used as the growth medium together with some aquarium or pond water. Do not use distilled or demineralized water as it lacks important nutarians.
